Mi Mil 8 and modifications. In the late 1950-ies abroad and we began work on the creation of helicopters second generation turboshaft engines, and in may 1960. to cost center began development of a new multi-purpose helicopter to replace the well-proven in operation of helicopters Mi-4. The first prototype helicopter In-8, one GTE AI-24V design C. P. Izotova and four-bladed rotor from the helicopter Mi-4, designed to carry 25 passengers, made its first flight in June 1961, and on July 9 was first demonstrated at the air festival at the Tushino airfield in Moscow, was built several helicopters. The main attention was paid to the development of twin-engine helicopter with a new five-bladed rotor, developed on the basis of the modified metal blades of the helicopter Mi-4, and the new hard tail rotor. The second prototype helicopter In-8, with two CCD TB2-117 power kW, made its first flight on 17 September 1962, has successfully passed flight tests and 1965. started serially produced at a helicopter plant in Kazan under the designation Mi-8. In helicopter design used a number of original technical solutions: large dural stamping and glenvarna connection, new system of external suspension, automatic control system of engine operation for synchronizing and maintaining the speed of rotation of the rotor within the specified limits.
