Basic configuration of the Be-200 amphibious aircraft is intended for aerial fighting forest fires using water or fire suppressants, while resolving the following tasks:
stopping and containment of medium and large forest fires by creating a fire break through multiple dropping of fire suppressant onto the fire edge;
elimination of small and incipient forest fires; and
delivery of fire brigades and fire fighting equipment to the disaster zone by landing on pre-selected water area or airfield, and their return to the base.
Besides, the aircraft can fulfill the following missions:
transportation of personnel and cargoes;
search and rescue operations;
environmental monitoring; and
patrol of the exclusive economic zone and maritime borders.
With this, all fire fighting capabilities are not affected.
The Be-200ES aircraft, developed for the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations, is intended to resolve the following basic tasks:
fire fighting;
delivery of rescuer teams and required essential equipment and cargoes to the areas impacted by natural disasters, including landing on the nearest airfields and water bodies;
evacuation of survivors from the disaster zone, and search and detection of ships in distress;
determination of precise position of emergency zones;
classification of the detected targets visually or using onboard technical aids; and
transportation of non-commercial passengers and cargoes.
Be-200ES can be operated from category B airfields with length of runway of 1,800 m, and from water areas at least 2,700 m long and at least 2.6 m deep. The aircraft can take off from and land on water with wave height of up to 1.2 m (sea state 3).
