The unit comprises of a 2in ball valve and an actuator mounting pedestal. The ball valve housing consists of a cast aluminium alloy body, with two aluminium end retainers held in place with six bolts. The interface between the valve body and end connectors is sealed by O-rings. The mounting flange incorporates four studs to allow attachment to the actuator
mounting pedestal and two threaded holes allow the flange to be bolted to the fuel tank wall. The drive spindle protrudes from the unit and interfaces with the actuator mounting pedestal. Internally, the valve consists of an aluminium alloy spherical ball mounted on the drive spindle and bottom spindle, which in turn are located by phosphor bronze bearings. Sealing of the spherical ball is achieved by two balanced PTFE seats, which are energised by a wave spring and sealed by an O-ring either side of the ball. Operation of the spherical ball is via a stainless steel drive spindle, which passes through the body and is sealed by double O-ring seals. This spindle passes through the fuel tank wall and interfaces to the drive assembly.
The actuator mounting pedestal is positioned on the outside of the fuel tank wall and attached to the valve via four bolts from the body assembly and is designed to be used with an Eaton 90° actuator.
• The pedestal valve can be used with Eaton's single or twin motor actuators.
• The valve is fitted with thermal relief pill set at 12 - 20psi.
A variation of the valve can be supplied with thermal relief up to 80psi to suit aircraft requirements.
