The OPTI-CUT® Gear Gasher family includes finishing tools for both internal (convex form) and external (concave form) gear production. The cutters, as well as their inserts, have been designed to achieve both the high accuracies and improved metal removal rates required in the finishing operation. In addition, the OPTI-CUT gear gasher for finishing features a unique tooling design that applies all of its effective teeth at the base of the tooth during feed, but only half the effective teeth at the tooth flank, thus optimizing the chip thickness. The end result is a process that makes significant improvements to tool life and surface finishes, as compared to what is possible with conventional tooling designs.
