The Northern Avionics In-flight Entertainment System (IES) originally launched in 2005 has become obsolete and is now out of production. Since 2016 the IES has been replaced by a more advanced, modern and modular platform called Wireless Avionics Entertainment System (WAvES) which provides all the IES features plus a wealth of new modules such as Wi-Fi, connectivity, multiple embedded monitors and Cabin Management System (CMS). WAvES is here proposed as a direct retrofit to IES through a simple “plug-out plug-in” service bulletin with minimal hassle and minimal ground time. The IES/WAvES retrofit program has been specifically designed for helicopters previously equipped with Northern Avionics IES such as the A109E/S/SP and other similar configurations.
