Securaplane’s wireless emergency lighting system (WELS) is now flying on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The system provides illumination and signage to enable passengers and crew to evacuate the aircraft in an emergency. WELS uses wireless Securanet™ intra-aircraft communication to save weight over wired systems by an estimated 52 pounds. The system can be easily reconfigured through wireless technology (including reprogramming). This allows seats to be reconfigured without wiring, transverse separation enabling the aircraft’s emergency lighting to operate regardless of structural damage, maintainability through wireless reprogramming, health management diagnostics and LRU level replacement.
