Description

Product overview
AeroShell Grease 5 is a clay‑thickened aircraft grease formulated to operate across a wide temperature range while providing reliable load‑carrying capacity, oxidation and corrosion resistance, and water washout resistance. It is intended for high‑speed, high‑temperature rolling elements and aircraft accessories.

Key features
  • Temperature range: typical service between -18°C and +149°C.
  • High load‑carrying capacity for heavily loaded rolling contacts.
  • Oxidation and corrosion protection to extend component service life.
  • Resistance to water washout and humid conditions.
  • Suitable for wheel bearings, propellers (piston aircraft) and engine accessories.

Specifications & approvals
  • United States: MIL‑G‑3545C (obsolete)
  • British: DTD.878A (obsolete)
  • French: DCSEA 359/A (equivalent)
  • NATO Code: G‑359 (obsolete)
  • Joint Service Designation: XG‑277 (obsolete)
  • Rolls‑Royce: OMat428A

Typical applications
AeroShell Grease 5 is widely used as a wheel bearing grease where high landing speeds and elevated temperatures occur. It is also specified for lubrication of aircraft engine accessories operating at high speed and moderate to high temperatures (for example magnetos, generators, starters) and for piston‑propeller hubs. For bearings that must start at temperatures near -18°C, allow time for the grease to channel to ensure adequate startup clearance.

Handling, health & safety
  • When used as recommended and with good hygiene, the product is unlikely to present significant health hazards.
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact; use impervious gloves with used oil. Wash affected skin with soap and water.
  • Consult the product Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed handling and emergency information.
  • Protect the environment: collect and dispose of used lubricant at authorized facilities; do not release to drains, soil or water.

Additional information
TDS and SDS are available in English. AeroShell Grease 5 is supplied in the Americas region only; contact local sales for availability and packaging options.
