OverviewMSS-5 is the 5th generation of the Multilateration Surveillance System (MSS) tailored for Air Traffic Management combining proven multilateration and ADS-B technologies. The system provides accurate real-time localization, tracking and identification of all transponder-equipped targets on airport surface, in TMA and en-route. The system operates in all weather and is suitable for any terrain profile.
Key challenges addressed- Traffic density
- Deployability
- Time synchronization
- Safety
- Security
Solutions and use cases (Gate to Gate surveillance)- MLAT (Surface Surveillance): Surface Multilateration by MSS-5 provides ground surveillance including immediate airport vicinity.
- WAM (Wide Area Multilateration): Wide Area Multilateration delivers accurate surveillance for TMA and en-route areas across challenging terrains.
- ADS-B: MSS-5 decodes ADS-B per applicable standards and can be deployed as standalone redundant ADS-B ground-station network with ASTERIX output or as ADS-B receivers network fused in a Central Processing Station to provide a single ADS-B track.
- PRM (Parallel Runway Monitoring): High accuracy supports safe approaches to parallel runways at high-traffic airports.
- HMU (Height Monitoring Unit): MSS-5 supports height monitoring and contributes to RVSM implementation (vertical separation down to 1000 ft).
- VTS (Vehicle Tracking System): Combined with SQUID, MSS-5 forms a vehicle tracking solution to improve apron safety and operations efficiency.
