Description

THE NWB IN BRAUNSCHWEIG IS A CLOSED-CIRCUIT LOW SPEED WIND TUNNEL OF THE ATMOSPHERIC TYPE, LOCATED ON THE PREMISES OF THE DLR. From 2009 to 2010, the NWB underwent substantial refurbishment to become an aeroacoustic wind tunnel of excellent acoustic properties, while at the same time its well-known high aerodynamic qualities were preserved. Type of wind tunnel Industrial wind tunnel for the low-speed domain with cutting edge technology and with capabilities for aeroacoustic and dynamic testing. MODEL SUPPORT Full-models (rear as well as ventral/dorsal mount), half-models and 2D airfoil models Dynamic supports: Rotary motion support for coning and spinning motion as well asthe unique six-degree of freedom parallel kinematic Model Positioning Mechanism(MPM) for sinusoidal oscillations as well as for maneuver simulation Fixed ground plane with scoop for automotive tests ANECHOIC PLENUM Size 14 m x 16 m x 8 m (length x width x height) 99% acoustic damping, certified for a frequency range of 100 Hz to 40 kHz in accordance with Appendix A of ISO 3745 AUXILIARY SYSTEMS Compressed air supply: reciprocating compressor MBH, screw compressors GHH.Operating possible in single, parallel or serial mode; screw compressors in pressure and suction mode as well Vacuum pumps DEMAG Typical tests Aeroacoustic investigations Database creation and configuration studies for aircraft, cars and trucks Engine integration Dynamic testing Air intake tests Air exhaust simulation
