Sanmac® 4305 is an austenitic chromium-nickel steel supplied primarily as hollow bar with greatly improved machinability while retaining austenitic properties. Typical supply condition: solution annealed and white‑pickled.
Applications
Components requiring very high machinability where corrosion resistance and high‑stress performance are not the primary criteria.
Corrosion resistance
Good resistance to organic acids at moderate temperatures (except formic acid).
Resistant to sulphates, sulphides and sulphites.
Resistant to caustic solutions at moderate temperatures.
Resistant to oxidizing acids such as nitric acid.
Low carbon content provides good resistance to intergranular corrosion.
Austenitic steels (including Sanmac® 4305) can be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking above about 60°C in chloride-containing environments; alloys such as SAF 2304®, Alleima® 10RE51 or Sanmac® 2205 offer higher resistance under such conditions.
Sensitivity to pitting and crevice corrosion may occur in chloride-containing solutions; molybdenum-alloyed steels improve resistance.
Forms of supply
Primarily supplied as hollow bar, solution annealed and white‑pickled, available in various outside and inside diameters with guaranteed component sizes after machining. Improved tolerances available on special order. Solid bar forms also available in Sanmac grade.
Machining
Sanmac is Alleima's machinability concept: optimized machinability achieved via controlled non‑metallic inclusions, adjusted chemical composition and optimized production parameters.
Enables significantly higher cutting speeds (for example up to about twice those for Sanmac 304/304L) while maintaining austenitic material characteristics.
Detailed cutting data and tool recommendations are provided in brochure S-02909-ENG.
