According to the National Rescue Society, between 2016 and 2021 there were 1,327 drownings in Italy: 857 along sea coasts and 470 in inland waters (lakes, rivers, etc.).* In such emergencies, the first minutes are critical: within 2 minutes, a person may lose consciousness, and within 4–6 minutes, irreversible brain damage can occur due to hypoxia (insufficient oxygen supply to the tissues, especially the brain). PALAEMON was created with a clear goal: to reduce the time between the alarm and the arrival of a lifebuoy to the person in distress, providing immediate support to the swimmer, visual assistance to rescuers, and reducing risks and difficulties caused by strong currents, waves, or crowding.
