The RA-4500 MK II is the rotorcraft retrofit in the FreeFlight Systems TERRAIN Series. It is a direct replacement for legacy radar altimeters, including units from other manufacturers, and it is built for the low-altitude band rotorcraft actually work in.
Replaces what is in the panel now
Not just an in-family upgrade. The RA-4500 MK II replaces RA-4000 and RA-4500 installations and other manufacturers' altimeters with minimal installation impact, retaining existing antennas and cabling. The upgrade is a swap and a return to service, not a panel programme.
Accurate where rotorcraft work
Plus or minus 1.5 feet from 0 to 100 feet AGL, refreshed at least 25 times a second. Confined-area landings, offshore decks, hoist work and low-level tactical flying all depend on the bottom of the range being right, and on the reading keeping pace with the aircraft.
Interference resilience
Customized RF filtering and digital signal processing mitigate C-band interference, guarding against erratic readings, autopilot disengagements and false terrain warnings. Units meet AD 2023-10-02 and AD 2023-11-07.
Approvals your installer can act on
Installation approvals, certificate numbers and installation contacts are published in the FreeFlight Systems STC library, so a shop can scope the job before the aircraft arrives.

RS-485/422, RS-232, ARINC 429 and ARINC 552A. Works with popular glass displays or the standalone RAD-45 indicator for LED AGL readings.
