OverviewThese proprietary Hycomp™ composite materials are sheet molding compounds (SMC) engineered as high-temperature, polyimide-based composites reinforced with one-inch chopped carbon (H310®) or glass (H320®) fibers. Designed as metal replacements to reduce weight and remove lubrication requirements in demanding mechanical and aerospace-critical systems, they provide high mechanical strength and continuous operating capability up to approximately 315°C (600°F).
Applications- Engine components
- Flight control parts
- Landing gear
- Wheel and braking systems
- Bushings
- Guide rings
- Wear liners
- Seals
- Clamps
- Thermal isolators
H310® Composite (key points)- Aerospace-grade polyimide thermoset resin reinforced with one-inch chopped carbon fiber.
- Optimized for lower to moderate speeds with high-load capability.
- High mechanical strength suitable for structural and wear-critical components.
H320® Composite (key points)- Polyimide thermoset resin reinforced with one-inch chopped glass fiber.
- Best suited for high-temperature heat shield applications and high-temperature electrical insulation.
Advantages- Continuous operating temperature capability up to approximately 315°C (600°F).
- Significant weight reduction versus metal in many applications (up to ~40% in some cases).
- Eliminates or reduces the need for lubrication in many mechanical assemblies.
- High mechanical strength and suitability for aviation-critical systems.
