OverviewSAF® 3006 (UNS S83071) is a high‑alloy duplex (austenitic‑ferritic) stainless steel engineered for enhanced corrosion resistance in acidic and caustic environments. It is specifically specified for heat exchanger tubing in chemical and petrochemical applications, offering a cost‑effective alternative to austenitic stainless steels and nickel‑based alloys while enabling lighter construction due to higher mechanical strength.
Quick factsProduct form: Heat exchanger tubing
Standard sizes: OD 0.75 – 1" (19.05 – 25.4 mm); WT 0.049 – 0.083" (1.24 – 2.11 mm); other sizes available on request
Standard: ASTM A789/790
Common applications:
- Caustic evaporators
- Acid coolers
- Condensers
Chemical composition (nominal), %C | Si | Mn | P | S | Cr | Ni | Mo | N
≤0.030 | 0.02 | 1.0 | ≤0.030 | ≤0.015 | 30 | 7 | 3.2 | 0.35
Performance & advantagesThis super‑duplex grade provides high mechanical strength—allowing lighter constructions—and excellent resistance to acids and caustic media. Compared with super‑duplex SAF® 2507 (UNS S32750), SAF® 3006 shows equal or improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride‑bearing environments. Suitable for use with or without seawater cooling.
