OverviewThe Armed BLACK HAWK combines the lethality of an attack helicopter with the lift and flexibility of a utility airframe. Based on the UH-60/S-70 lineage, the platform is rapidly reconfigurable for air-mobile assault, close support, medical evacuation, ISR and tactical airlift.
Key features- Modular armed kit with a six-station weapons management suite: two 7.62 mm guns, podded .50 cal GP-19, 7‑ or 19‑shot Hydra 70 rocket pods, and optional precision missiles.
- Utility cabin configurable for up to 11 troops, medical stretchers, cargo or ISR sensor packages; supports external sling-load operations.
- Cost-efficient acquisition and lifecycle profile relative to comparable attack helicopters.
- Robust sustainment: crashworthy airframe, redundant systems, and long-term supply chain support with U.S. Government-backed logistics.
Sales and sustainmentAvailable via Foreign Military Sales (FMS) or Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) with parts, training and logistics commonality to UH-60. Lockheed Martin sustainment team provides integration and long-term support; European-built S-70 airframes and close-support kits are installed by PZL Mielec (Poland).
Attack missions- Suppressive fire: sustained 70mm (2.75-inch) rockets and forward-firing .50 cal/7.62 mm guns for area suppression.
- Anti-armor: configurable for up to 16 precision air-to-ground missiles (e.g., Hellfire/JAGM) for stand-off or mobile engagements.
- Surveillance/armed reconnaissance: EO/IR sensors combined with rockets and fixed or crew-served guns.
- Armed escort: convoy and littoral protection using rockets and forward-firing guns.
- Air assault: internal transport for 11 troops plus gunners, or rapid seat removal for cargo operations.
Pilot controls- Pilots can operate up to four weapons stations per cockpit across two external wings.
- Each wing supports any mix of fixed 12.7 mm guns, 7‑ or 19‑shot Hydra 70 pods, or air‑to‑ground missiles.
- Two forward‑firing 7.62 mm mini‑guns can be pilot‑controlled when not crew‑served.
- Durable cabin design enables rapid reconfiguration to mission requirements.
