Overview
Derived from the BLACK HAWK® S-70 family, the S-70i™ FIREHAWK® is a multi-mission aerial firefighting and rescue helicopter engineered for precision water delivery, high-payload transport and hoist/rescue operations. Operational since 2000, the platform supports fire agencies with enhanced power margins, strengthened airframe and certified maneuverability under heavy loads.

Key Capabilities

• Firefighter transport: Insert up to 11 wildland firefighters with gear to the fire line.
• Precision water drop: Belly tank system siphons, carries and releases up to 1,000 US gallons (approx. 8,000 lb water) with high accuracy to support ground crews.
• Search and rescue: Hoist operations using a Stokes basket or rescue strop; cargo hook for livestock or heavy recoveries in inaccessible terrain.
• Humanitarian & disaster relief: Internal palletized load or external sling capacity up to 4,080 kg (9,000 lb) for rapid logistics support.
• Emergency medical transport: Medically equipped cabin configuration for first-responder patient care and hoist medevac.
• In-flight reconfiguration: Rapid role change between firefighting, SAR, hoist, medevac and cargo missions.
• Autonomy option: Compatible with Sikorsky MATRIX optionally piloted/autonomy system (optional).

Operators & Service
FIREHAWK® helicopters have been operated and supported by multiple agencies including Los Angeles County Fire Department, CAL FIRE, Ventura County Fire Department, Santa Barbara Fire Department, Orange County Fire Authority and the State of Colorado Division of Fire Protection and Control. Operator support includes mission-specific equipment integration and field service.
