The YDKL-1A ATC Transponder Field Tester is a handheld X-band radio transceiver intended for on-site interrogation and analysis of airborne ATC transponders. It transmits standard A-mode and C-mode interrogation pulses, receives reply signals and decodes aircraft identification and altitude information for display. The unit is battery-powered and uses external antennas for transmission and reception, allowing verification and troubleshooting of transponder operation during maintenance, inspections and ground checks.
