Description

Overview
Omniseal® polymer rotary lip seals combine a metal case with PTFE or PTFE-blended polymer sealing lips to deliver reliable rotary shaft sealing where elastomer lip seals or mechanical face seals are unsuitable. Engineered for hostile conditions, these seals accommodate extreme temperatures, aggressive media, high surface speeds, high pressures and limited lubrication. Typical applications include aviation engines, rotorheads and life-science equipment such as oxygen concentrators.

Key features
  • Metal-cased rotary shaft seals with PTFE-based flexible sealing lips
  • Multiple series covering economical to high-performance double-lip designs
  • Options with garter springs for consistent lip load and tolerance to shaft runout/misalignment
  • Wide range of proprietary PTFE-based and fluoropolymer compounds (500+ formulations for tribological, mechanical and thermal needs)
  • Variants for lubricated/non-lubricated media, gases, abrasive media and long-term storage sealing

Application examples
  • Aviation: jet engines, rotorheads
  • Industrial rotating equipment: pumps, mixers, valves
  • Life science: oxygen concentrators, analytical and surgical devices

Materials & variants
High-performance proprietary PTFE-based fluoropolymer compounds available in multiple grades for chemical compatibility, low friction and wear resistance. Material codes (examples) are selected based on media, lubrication and temperature requirements.

Series / Design families (examples)
  • 10 Series — economical designs for a wide range of lubricated and non-lubricated applications
  • 20 Series — increased lip load for improved sealing of gases and abrasive media
  • 30 / 40 Series — threaded sealing lip to pump media away from the seal
  • 50 Series — low torque, long-life environmental seal (light lip loading)
  • 60 Series — spring-loaded designs for shaft runout/misalignment and long-term positive sealing
  • 70 / 80 / 90 Series — double-lip designs for high pressure and high speed (options for threaded primary lip plus secondary lip)

Materials examples and characteristics
  • A16 (black) — general-purpose secondary elements and dust excluders; good heat and wear resistance; suitable for moderate shaft hardness and both lubricated and non-lubricated media
  • A12 (tan) — suited to dry running or non-lubricated liquids (water, freon, diesel, gasoline); non-abrasive to mating shafts
  • A15 (gray) — best wearing in oil; recommended with hardened shafts (e.g. 55 HRC)
  • A46 (white) — FDA-capable grade; suitable for softer shafts such as 316 stainless (limited wear resistance)
  • A72 (beige) — superior heat and wear resistance; for limited/non-lubricated applications at elevated temperatures (not for steam or continuous water service)

Design elements
  • Garter springs — coiled springs (carbon steel or stainless) to provide consistent lip load and improve sealing under runout/misalignment and high speed
  • Threaded lips (30/40 series) — actively pump media away from the lip to improve performance in certain media
  • Double-lip configurations (70/80/90 series) — primary sealing plus secondary protection for higher pressure and speed

Caractéristiques / spécifications techniques
  • Temperature range: -60°C to +230°C (−75°F to +450°F)
  • Pressure capability: up to 34 bar (500 psi)
  • Typical maximum shaft speed: 35 m/s (special designs up to 100 m/s)
  • Shaft size range (metal cased): 6 to 330 mm
  • Bore size range (metal cased): 16 to 380 mm
  • Minimum tolerances: Shaft ±0.003"; Bore ±0.001"
  • Materials: PTFE and PTFE-blended proprietary fluoropolymers (many grades for chemical, tribological and regulatory needs)
  • Suitable for: lubricated and non-lubricated media, aggressive chemicals, high surface speeds, high pressure applications, limited lubrication
