Description

Overview
Meldin® Thermoplastics is a family of engineered thermoplastic compounds formulated for applications requiring thermal resistance, dimensional stability and mechanical integrity where standard engineering plastics are insufficient. The Meldin® series supports demands across aerospace, space systems, life science equipment, semiconductors and other industrial applications operating at elevated temperatures.

Material Families & Typical Formulations
  • PPS-based compounds (Meldin® 1000 series) — proprietary polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) compounds offering chemical and thermal resistance, dimensional control and structural integrity for versatile designs.
  • PAI-based compounds (Meldin® 4000 series) — polyamide-imide (PAI) formulations delivering high mechanical strength at temperature, metal-replacement characteristics (stiffness, wear resistance) and compatibility with common automotive and industrial fluids.
  • PEEK / PAEK-based compounds (Meldin® 5000 series) — PEEK/PAEK formulations providing high tensile, compressive and flexural strength, corrosion resistance and metal-like finishes at reduced weight.

Applications & Typical Uses
  • Aerospace: thrust washers, structural components and high-temperature tight-clearance parts.
  • Space: components requiring cryogenic stability, thermal resistance and long service life under extreme environments.
  • Life science: electrical insulators, wear parts and precision components for medical and laboratory equipment.
  • Industrial & Semiconductor: bearings, piston rings, vanes and other parts requiring wear resistance, chemical compatibility and dimensional control.

Features & Benefits
  • Thermal resistance and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures.
  • Chemical and corrosion resistance for aggressive media.
  • Tribological properties suited to high PV conditions and dry-running environments.
  • Lower weight compared with metals and potential for metal replacement in components.
  • Formulations optimized for high load and wear resistance, including reinforced and specialty grades.
  • Available unfilled electrical grades and blends for specific friction/wear performance.
  • Injection molding capability for tight-tolerance finished parts and complex designs.

Available Resources
  • Material datasheets and a dedicated thermoplastics handbook with technical data and series comparisons.
  • Comparison charts and performance infographics outlining trade-offs across Meldin® 1000 (PPS), 4000 (PAI) and 5000 (PEEK) series.

Characteristics / Technical specifications
  • Primary chemistries: PPS, PAI, PEEK/PAEK formulations.
  • Manufacturing: injection-moldable thermoplastic compounds; finished parts available with limited prototype shapes.
  • Performance: high thermal resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion for tolerance control, high wear resistance under load, dry-running capability and chemical inertness.
  • Grades: reinforced (strength), unfilled (electrical insulation), specialty blends (tribological optimization).
  • Typical benefits vs. metals: reduced weight, corrosion resistance, potential elimination of lubrication and ability to meet tight clearances.
  • Industries: aerospace, space, life science, semiconductor, industrial and energy applications.
