Description

Product overview

These metal face seals provide long service life and avoid failures common to non-metallic seals such as environmental incompatibility, outgassing or age-related deterioration.

Applications & usage
  • Designed for static face sealing (not recommended for dynamic applications).
  • Standard shapes: circular; also available in rectangular, racetrack and custom geometries.
  • Typical applications: hot mould equipment, nuclear reactor vessels, gas turbines and other environments where elastomers or non-metallic seals are unsuitable due to temperature, pressure or chemical exposure.

Design & features
  • Can be vented, gas-filled, pressurized or spring-energized to meet specific pressure and temperature requirements.
  • Plating or coating options improve leakage control and surface performance.
  • Available spring options: None, Alloy X-750, Alloy 718, 302 SS; also supplied without springs.
  • Materials: Alloy X-750, 321 SS, Alloy 600 (other materials on request).
  • Component is described as PFAS-Free* (no intentional addition of PFAS; trace presence not excluded due to environmental prevalence).

Standard specifications
Materials & springs: Alloy X-750, 321 SS, Alloy 600 (others on request) — Springs: None, Alloy X-750, Alloy 718, 302 SS
Used in: applications where elastomers and other non-metallic seals cannot provide required reliability (temperature, pressure, environment)
Temperature: -250°C to +1100°C (-423°F to +2000°F)
Pressure: high vacuum to 25,000 psi (1723 bar)
Leakage rate: 10^(-5) to 10^(-8) cc/sec He (depends on finish & coating)
Clamping load: 200–3700 lb/in (35–650 N/mm) or higher with spring-energized design
Dimensions: face/radial diameter 6 mm to 7000 mm (custom available); cross-section 0.89 to 12.70 mm; tolerances ±0.03 mm

Additional information
  • Adaptability: seals can be vented, gas-filled, pressurized or spring-energized for specific conditions.
  • Plating selection: improves leakage control and performance in aggressive environments.
  • Manufacturer provides typical performance comparisons vs. FFKM O-rings, metal gaskets and spring-energized seals for reference.
