Description

Product overview
ArcGIS Excalibur is a web-based imagery interpretation and video analysis application for working with maps, imagery, and video services. It provides tools to annotate, mark up, add observations or measurements, and perform image/video-based analysis and workflows to create content for reports, presentations, and dashboards for stakeholders.

Key capabilities
  • Search and discover imagery and video from enterprise web services by name, date, location, time, metadata, map extent, or area of interest; save queries for reuse.
  • Access imagery via multiple service types: WMS, WMTS, Tile Layers, Tiled Image Layers, Map Image Layers, and Video layers.
  • Configure ready-to-use workflows and projects: organize imagery, customize toolsets, add instructions and observation layers, and include web maps for geospatial context.
  • Advanced visualization controls: apply renderers, edit band combinations, and adjust dynamic range (DRA), gamma and other display settings.
  • Real-time analysis: annotate, measure, count features, collect observations, perform remote inspections, detect change by comparing images, and save edits to the portal.
  • Video analysis when paired with ArcGIS Video Server: stream and play video services, publish files from multiple sources, stream live feeds, and view telemetry alongside video.
  • Export and share: capture images or video frames, export screenshots for briefings, reports, dashboards and other ArcGIS applications.

Workflows and tools (examples)
  • Flash tool: jump from an image object to its map location.
  • Capture Video Frame: extract a single video frame and add it to the map panel.
  • Detect change tools: compare images to identify differences and activity changes.
  • Swipe and Flicker: compare two image layers or flip through frames to visualize temporal changes.
  • Counting and measurement: automatic feature counting, distance and area measurement, and annotation tools for images and video.
  • Project management: create configurable projects that bundle imagery, tools, observation layers, and web maps into workflows.

How it is used / typical workflows
  • Remote inspections — assess infrastructure or operations using imagery and video.
  • Disaster response and situational awareness — analyze aerial, drone, and satellite imagery and geospatial video to coordinate response.
  • Change detection and monitoring — track temporal changes across imagery series to identify activity or infrastructure changes.
  • Reporting and briefings — export imagery and analysis results for reports, presentations, and stakeholder dashboards.

Integration and deployment
ArcGIS Excalibur connects to imagery archives in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise and integrates with ArcGIS Image Server and ArcGIS Video Server to process, publish, stream and analyze imagery and video services.

Licensing and availability
ArcGIS Excalibur is included with ArcGIS user types and is provided as part of the ArcGIS platform user type licensing model.

Technical characteristics / specifications
  • Architecture: web-based (browser) application integrated with ArcGIS platform services.
  • Supported services: WMS, WMTS, Tile Layers, Tiled Image Layers, Map Image Layers, Video layers.
  • Video: streaming and playback with ArcGIS Video Server; capture individual frames for analysis.
  • Visualization: band combinations, renderers, dynamic range adjustment (DRA), gamma adjustment.
  • Analysis tools: annotation, measurement, automated counting, change detection, swipe/flicker comparisons, Flash tool.
